Ruth’s recent album on Third Man,” Water Also Flows” is scarcely two week from launch but now feels like an ancient favorites. The great and atmospheric place music sprinklings found on” I Survived, It’s Over” are still there, but a harder border has been added. Large guitars and hair, a touch of gunk and shadows. That’s not to suggest this is a black record. These changes are well-balanced. Part of that balancing act is harpist ( and local favorite ) Mikaela Davis’s contributions to the record.

On the final day of a tour, Ruth and his group supported Davis and Southern Star. There was a time in” Action at a Distance” where I could see Ruth and firm win over the audience. The music area begins to cook after a few minutes of ambient harmonica work by Sam Que. As Ruth lays into his harp, you may feel the energy start to bulk up before bursting into flames. Folks started pointing to the stage after talking to friends in the past.

The final two tracks of the collection included Davis. I have no plans to see this particular handle again. No Muscle, No Memory’s second trail, which she plays, provides a fantastic glimpse into what this job is. It sounds like the time the sun rises, the day when the fresh day could be anything and have many choices, at its end. But by its close it had clear explanation, and you know what the sun had brought.

The Colony is a tough recording environment. On this day, I was set up on the balcony, significantly left of center. Although the atmosphere in the room was pleasant, this place places me right in the middle of people looking for a calmer place to connect. As such, masses chatter is prominent during calmer passages. Overall, the quality is very good, but this is most certainly an” AUD”. Enjoy!
