The Princess of Wales made a stunning appearance today at the Order of the Garter ceremonies in Windsor, wearing a striking Self Portrait dress.

Outside St. George’s Chapel, the Duchess of Edinburgh joined the Princess of Wales, both radiating elegance in their outfits.

The Order of the Garter traces its roots back to medieval times when King Edward III established it, inspired by King Arthur’s legends and the chivalric ideals of the Knights of the Round Table. Over nearly 700 years since its inception, it has evolved into Britain’s oldest and most prestigious Order of Chivalry. Invitations are now extended to both men and women from diverse backgrounds, honoring their significant public service. The Order’s spiritual center is St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Lizzie Robinson from ITV shared a captivating video featuring members of the Order, including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and other royal family members, as they walked toward the chapel.

The weather in Windsor was delightful, with the temperature reaching the upper 70s.

For additional context on the Order, the Royal Family site explains that the annual Garter Day procession features the King and Knights adorned in elaborate velvet robes and plumed hats. The ceremony is characterized by the grand procession at Windsor Castle, accompanied by a marching band and Officers of the Order in ceremonial dress. After a luncheon with the Sovereign, the members proceed to St. George’s Chapel for a brief service, where new companions are inducted. Following the service, the Sovereign and other members return to the Upper Ward of the castle in carriages.

During the ceremony, the King and Queen made their way to the chapel, showcasing the magnificence of the event.

The King, donning the traditional velvet robes and plumed hat of the Order of the Garter, smiled widely as he presided over the vibrant display of elegance and tradition under the brilliant sun. The Queen walked beside him, equally resplendent in full regalia, as the procession made its majestic path down from the castle’s quadrangle to St. George’s Chapel, met with cheers from the crowds who sought shelter from the sun in hats and parasols.

The procession included notable figures such as the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, and the Princess Royal, among others, as they made their way to the chapel.

Due to health issues, the Duke of Kent opted for a car ride to the chapel.

Another beautiful moment captured was of the Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess of Wales, both looking resplendent.

Rebecca English subsequently shared a video capturing the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh as they awaited the procession.

Among the attendees were former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair and Lord Lloyd-Webber, newly inducted into the Order. They were spotted during the event.

Baroness Amos, also invested in the Order in 2022, attended the ceremony.

The Prince of Wales and his brother, Prince Edward, shared a moment as they walked towards the chapel.

After the service, the royal family members boarded carriages for the ride back up the hill.

Here’s a glimpse of the Prince and Princess of Wales during their carriage ride.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were also in attendance, sharing a special carriage ride with the Princess Royal.

In the carriage with the Edinburghs was Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

The Princess showcased a stunning ensemble anchored by a Self Portrait dress, which caught the eye of many.

The Self Portrait dress, priced at $575, features a single-piece design that gives the illusion of a two-piece outfit. The Cream Tailored Bouclé and Chiffon Midi Dress is made from 100% polyester, showcasing a fitted bouclé jacket and a pleated, midi-length skirt adorned with lace. Additional details include satin lapels, hip pockets, a full lining, and a self-belt.

This marks the fourth occasion the Princess has donned this elegant dress. It was most recently showcased at a concert celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day, initially seen at a reception in September 2021, again at the Platinum Party at the Palace concert in 2022, and previously at last month’s concert.

The Princess also unveiled a striking new hat crafted by milliner Sean Barrett, featuring an alluring saucer style with a wide brim.

The Princess styled her hair in an elegant partial updo.

The Princess returned with her beloved Multrees Chain Wallet ($425) from Scottish brand Strathberry, which features a magnetic closure, internal zippered pocket, and detachable chain with signature Music Bar hardware.

The Princess appeared to have worn her Bisque Gianvito 105 Pumps ($597 on sale, similar color available here) again.

The Princess accessorized her dress with vintage jewelry pieces from Susan Caplan. The earrings, featuring a Vintage Renaissance Revival design with faux pearls, were crafted in the 1980s and are unfortunately now sold out. The second piece is a stunning faux pearl necklace, priced at £275 (approximately $375), that features graduated sizes and a Swarovski crystal clasp.

Reflecting on the Princess’s past Garter Day outfits reveals a delightful fashion evolution. From a Katherine Hooker coat in 2011 to her stunning choices in subsequent years, each ensemble has highlighted her fashion sense. In 2012, she wore the beloved Alexander McQueen ‘Samurai Folds’ coat, then a bespoke Christopher Kane in 2014. The trend continued with a Catherine Walker ensemble in 2016, another in 2019, and a dramatic design believed to be McQueen in 2022.
