Van Morrison has announced a new album largely inspired by the music of his formative years. Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge features a blend of classic tracks, recurring collaborators, and a raw, authentic recording style. This release comes on the heels of a vigorous campaign of live performances and a new series of shows that Morrison has embarked on recently.
According to a press release from Van Morrison’s management, Somebody Tried to Sell Me a Bridge is already available, released through Orangefield Records.
You can purchase Somebody Tried to Sell Me a Bridge in both CD and digital formats:
Someone Tried To Sell Me A Bridge offers a vibrant, unfiltered blues experience from an artist deeply connected to the genre. This album artfully melds Morrison’s signature grit and poignant lyricism with the profound emotional weight characteristic of classic blues, resulting in a compilation that feels both timeless and dynamically alive.
A notable aspect of the album is its impressive lineup of collaborators. Morrison is accompanied by some of the most esteemed names in contemporary blues, including Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, and his long-time musical partner John Allair, alongside other enduring collaborators like David Hayes, Bobby Ruggerio, and Mitch Woods, associated with “Friends Along The Way.” Additionally, Anthony Paule, leader of the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, and the acclaimed drummer Larry Vann contribute their talents. Together, their distinct contributions add depth, character, and authenticity to the record, enriching Morrison’s artistic vision. The album was recorded at Studio D in Sausalito, California, with engineering by long-term collaborator Jim Stern, alongside Ben McAuley.
After successfully completing an incredible run of shows celebrating his 80th birthday at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Van Morrison is gearing up for a series of upcoming performances to promote his new album. The concert lineup includes John Allair on Hammond and vocals, Mitch Woods on piano, Anthony Paule on guitar, David Hayes on bass, Bobby Ruggerio on drums, and backing vocals from Omega Rae Brooks and Larry Batiste.
