But, for a brief period, it seemed as if she was going to keep Intelligence. Following a ride-along check with Suarez as her superintendent, she began working as an operating detective. Suarez promised to resign from the brains because she was too great for various units and for a favor.
Burgess was irritated by this because she claimed she did n’t want favors and that Suarez should give her a more sincere response. Suarez responded that she was a great officer who had the instincts of a police officer who was protected by a lieutenant.
Suarez finally made the unthinkable choice to move Burgess to a different system for a while so she can become a better detective and advance in her career, thereby allowing for the unthinkable growth in the field of intelligence. Despite working at home with Intelligence where she could work more closely with her girlfriend, Adam Ruzek, and keep up their regular existence, Burnss accepted the offer as she wanted to be a great detective.
But, before Burgess could do anything more, Deputy Chief Reid made the final decision to keep Kim Burgess in Intelligence. Kim protested, saying she did no like privileges, but Reid did not listen. Kim confronted Sergeant Voight about this, assuming he had asked for Kim to get put back in Intelligence. Voight also disputed doing it, citing the fact that favors were n’t free.
