Given that the film’s music exceeds the Academy’s pre-existing music threshold and is ineligible for nominations in the Best Original Score category, it was announced last month that Hans Zimmer’s score for Dune 2 would n’t be considered for Academy Awards consideration.
The Academy’s law prohibits the use of more than 20 % of pre-existing designs and songs in films and franchises from any media, including sequels and franchises, according to the Academy.
Despite this, per Variety, Warner Bros. has submitted Zimmer‘s Dune 2 rating for Oscar thought in hope that” his innovative contributions to the video will meet the requirements and make a nomination”.
What did Denis Villeneuve have to say about the report of Dune 2?
” I do n’t think this is over yet… I was there when Hans wrote the music, and he did a tremendous amount of music”, Villeneuve said. ” Piece Two is a new report. I do n’t accept this because it’s one of the most beautiful scores Hans has ever written, and I would love it, at least, to be considered”.
Villeneuve and Zimmer also said that Dune: Part Two is certainly a strong sequel to 2021’s Dune, instead, they view it as a culmination that completes Frank Herbert’s book.
” The story starts the following we finish the first movie”, he said. It would be foolish and entirely uncinematic to create new designs for the characters rather than expanding the style because we are still in that history and those characters.
The Oscar votes will be announced on Friday, January 17, 2025, while the ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Dune: Part Two — which stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, and more — is now streaming on Max.
